In this interview, written by the lovely Tara, we spoke to the amazing Nick, who is passionate about various forms of business and activism as he began his personalized watch wear company at age 16.Question one:. It’s a pleasure to speak with you, Nick! You seem to be very passionate about various forms of business and activism. What inspired you to start your own personalized watch wear company at age 16, (@/eternowatchwear) which constructs individualized timepieces? Had you always enjoyed designing watches or did it become a newfound hobby? The first item that gave me self worth was a watch. The people that buy our watches understand that it is so much more than a tool that tells time but a mark of individual identity. When people see your watch they can tell what type of person you are hardworking, creative, passionate. At Eterno, we are allow customers to create the watches they deserve. Question two: In reaching out to us, you’d mentioned, “[I am] currently working on @/civic wave and @/edisoncivicchange. Civic Wave is advocating for civic education in US schools through legislative action and student run activism. The Edison Civic Change Collective is addressing the town’s general and systemic political issues, by hosting weekly seminars with expert guests to educate students on the rich history of movements and activism behind issues like voting rights, education inequality, gender equality and police brutality.” For how long have you been partnering with these organizations and how were you first introduced to them? What drew you to their missions? Would you recommend readers to join as well? I was introduced to the Edison Civic Change concept from alumni from my school that shared the same passion for activism within our community. In terms of Civic Wave, I was added on the team a few months ago. I felt in love with the mission of creating education resources to aid the next generation of students I become more informed and engaged in the civic process and their communities. Question three: Why is combatting issues such as voter suppression, education and gender inequality and systemic racism important to you? What encourages you to pass on your knowledge of these subjects to fellow Gen-Z? These are important to me because these issues keep our democracy from growing further. The encouragement comes from within. I believe in what my team and I are doing and we believe we can strengthen the communities around us. Question four: Who are your role-models? Who do you look to for reassurance and motivation? My mother is my role model. She is the epitome of hard work, compassion, and character. She is my hero. Question five: Why is teaching the history behind current global issues crucial? It’s crucial that we are informed of our past so that we don’t continue to make bad judgements in the future. Question six: As an entrepreneur, what can you tell us about increasing engagement and how you promote your work? Throughout my journey, engagement [has been] about consistency and attempting to create meaningful connections. Before learning the different functions of online marketing, my team and I used to make cold calls. These calls didn’t result in much profit but it taught critical skills of engagement. We rely mostly on email, YouTube, and website marketing campaigns. Question seven: What is a meaningful piece of advice that you would give to the people in our demographic who seek to pursue similar things as you? Trust in yourself every single time. In life, the only thing we truly can control in ourselves is the amount of work we do and don’t put in. Question eight: Lastly, is there anything else you would like to share? If not, I’d love to thank you for enlightening us and starting conversations. Best of luck with everything! Feel free to contact me at @/nickimble on all platforms.
